Manager, Finance and Accounting

Description:As part of the Finance Department in the Operations Division, the Manager, Finance and Accounting has responsibility for initiating, monitoring and managing NatureServe�s accounting activities. The Manager, Finance and Accounting is the lead staff person in charge of the organization�s daily accounting activities including financial reporting, G/L, A/R, A/P, and Payroll. The Manager, Finance and Accounting also assists the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with the following finance functions: audit, budget, grants & contracts administration, investment, policy & procedure development, and treasury. Daily work requires extensive contact with NatureServe staff at all levels and thus, an ability to provide excellent service across the organization to a diverse array of operating units. The essential job functions listed below are not meant to be all-inclusive and may be subject to change at any time.
Duties:1. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and yearend audit schedules including A133-Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards.

2. Work with auditors to finalize yearend financial audit, form 990 and form 5500.

3. Analyze and forecast revenues and expenses of projects and grants.

4. Manage and improve the finance & accounting systems and processes to support the needs of the organization. This includes the updates, implementation, troubleshooting and oversight of a computerized accounting and financial reporting system, as well the updating of accounting instructions policies and procedures for the organization.

5. Oversee the timely, accurate and complete functioning of all accounting processes including: A/R, A/P, G/L, Payroll and Reconciliation functions.

6. Assist the CFO in delivering, presenting and interpreting financial reports and data to various internal and external users. This includes the development of reporting methods, processes and tools as well as preparing financial analysis and conducting training.

7. Maintain primary contact and assist in the oversight of various financial vendors including: audit, banking, and payroll.

8. Work in conjunction with the CFO and the Operations Manager in implementing processes required to administer federal grants, contracts and cooperative agreements, including indirect cost rate and audit standards.

9. Oversee the organization�s various statutory filings including financial reports to federal and private grantor agencies, IRS, and annual property and business tax returns.

10. Assist the CFO and the Operations staff in conducting the annual budget and audit processes.

11. Fill in for the CFO, when needed, in all financial forums.
Qualifications:REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor�s degree in accounting or finance with CPA or five years of related managerial experience.

2. Oversight and hands-on experience in critical accounting areas including A/P, A/R, G/L, Payroll and Reconciliation activities.

3. Experience with financial reporting and analysis, indirect cost recovery and allocation and project accounting and analysis.

4. Minimum of three years of experience in not for profit accounting, particularly in the area of grants, contracts and cooperative agreements.

5. Minimum of three years of managing year-end financial and federal audits (OMB Circulars, A133).

6. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to adapt skills and solutions to a diversity of situations.

7. Ability to develop and deliver financial support services and training to individuals and teams across the organization.

8. Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong affinity to customer service.

9. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.


PREFERRED SKILLS

1. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL, Solomon or Greatplains accounting systems.

2. Experience in establishing and overseeing financial vendor relationships, including: audit, banking, payroll and investment vendors.

3. Experience with the development of budgets, as well as the development and administration of financial policy and procedures.

4. Interest in and/or commitment to the conservation of biological diversity.


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to travel independently within NatureServe and the conservation community to attend meetings with partners and the public.

2. Ability to converse verbally and in writing with others regarding organizational goals and needs.

3. Ability to use organizational technology and lift a minimum of 2lbs.
