| Description: | The Director of Network Relations (Director) is an essential member of the Office of the President, and a key participant in the Executive Team. The Director leads the development and implementation of strategies that enhance the capacity, engagement, growth and mission effectiveness of NatureServe�s network of member organizations. Key responsibilities include catalyzing and coordinating joint planning efforts, encouraging and measuring network effectiveness, and conveying needs and assets of the network to NatureServe staff. The Director provides leadership in cross-organizational capacity building initiatives, seeks funding to address network needs, and provides input to other fundraising efforts in the organization to ensure that network needs are addressed. The Director role is pivotal because it serves as the facilitator of open and forward-looking communication among members of the network and NatureServe staff.
The Director must have excellent communication, writing and facilitation skills, with sensitivity to different cultures and institutional settings, as well as the ability to both persuade and inspire. The Director supervises staff support for the Latin American Section, and acts as a liaison with the Section Councils (Canada, Latin America and the U.S.). The Director is the primary staff interface with the Membership Committee of the Board of Directors.

| Duties: | 1. Know the network and ensure that others do, too:
� Maintain active communication with member organizations to understand their needs.
� Maintain active communication with NatureServe staff regarding contact and collaboration with member organizations.
� Coordinate and engage members in network-wide planning efforts.
� Maintain records on the state of network health, expertise and data assets, and levels of participation by member organizations.
� Make this information readily available to staff to connect appropriate partners for projects and work groups.
2. Maintain and build cohesion of the network by fostering a culture in which members help each other and create successful joint initiatives. Keep members informed about activities at NatureServe.
3. Support and serve as NatureServe�s liaison to the three Section Councils (Canada, Latin America and U.S.)
4. Support the Membership Committee of the Board of Directors, including development of a vision for NatureServe�s network of members, cultivation of current and future members, and facilitation of new member applications.
5. Initiate and participate in communications that represent the network to external audiences to build awareness of the strengths and/or needs of the network.
6. Ensure frequent communication among network members through a variety networking tools, as well as events such as conferences and training.
7. Raise funds to support networking-enhancing projects. Work with the Development staff to cultivate network-specific funding, and work with other NatureServe Divisions to include network-liaison funding in other projects where appropriate.
8. Manage member-related projects to meet timelines within budget targets, adjusting activities as needed to reflect available funding.
9. Coordinate with other staff, members, and partners to produce conferences that advance conservation, enhance network capacity and cohesion, and bring positive attention to the NatureServe network.
10. Work with other staff and members to offer effective training programs for network members. Explore and encourage use of available technology to expand the reach of the training and reduce costs. Work with other divisions to implement a sustainable funding model for training.

| Qualifications: | REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
� Minimum of five years experience in leadership positions within NatureServe member programs OR in a comparable, membership-based organization.
� College degree in a conservation related field OR a minimum of seven years relevant experience in a conservation or bioinformatics organization.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
� Candidates with experience working in a NatureServe member program will be strongly preferred.
� Advanced degree in a conservation related field preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
� Understands NatureServe�s mission and demonstrates a commitment to conservation.
� Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
� Ability to work well with a variety of people and institutions, and at various levels of authority.
� Leadership style that persuades, inspires, builds trust, and confidence.

� Ability to see the big picture with a demonstrated track record of progress toward vision.
� Track record of success in securing funding.
� Understands political sensitivity and is discrete.
� Self-starting and self-motivating.
� Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
� Demonstrated skill in facilitation and negotiation.
� Knowledge of social networking, social media and analytical tools to support network development.
� Use of survey tools to collect, analyze and report on organizational, financial and opinion data.
� Ability to converse and communicate in Spanish. Additional ability to communicate in French an asset.
� Experience with effective use of webinars and other media.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
� Ability to lift 25lbs.
� Ability to travel independently and attend conferences and meetings.
� Ability to speak clearly and hear well, to participate effectively in telecommunications with network members.
